Targeting Baptist hospital

The hospital is the oldest medical institution in Gaza, as it was established in 1882 and has many luminous signs in the history of the besieged city.
The hospital was founded by the Anglican Church of England and was later run as a medical mission by the Southern Baptist church from 1954 to 1982 when it returned to the Anglican Church. The hospital, which was built next to the church, played an important social role in serving the people of Gaza and providing their medical and educational needs. The hospital has provided its services to approximately 38,000 patients annually for free. It also contained an early cancer detection center and a nursing school.

The hospital is funded by aid that comes through the United Nations UNRWA and the American aid, that was reduced significantly under Trump’s rule. Several Islamic and international bodies funded the hospital to continue its mission. The hospital recently made an agreement with the Texas-based MD Cancer Center to receive aid and medical consultations.

The hospital was built throughout a century containing buildings that belong to different styles. The first image goes back to 1916 and the latest to 2021. From British colonial style to modernism, the photos show several architectural examples that reflect the architecture of each era it was built in.

Satellite images show the roofs of buildings covered with solar panels to provide the hospital’s need for electricity due to the intentional power cutting by the occupation, which extends for more than 18 hours a day -for the past 10 years!
The occupation forces bombed the hospital in an act that is nothing but barbaric and savage, leaving more than 700 deaths in a clear war crime.
