Silencing the Media

Al-Galaa Tower is one of Gaza’s landmarks. The 50m tower stood since the 1990s as a witness to the efforts of having a normal life under the occupation. The tower, which served as the headquarters to 30 news agencies, including Aljazeera and Associated Press, along with clinics, offices, and 30 residential units, was targeted by occupation missiles on 15 May 2021, leaving it in total ruins.
In terms of architecture, the tower is an ideal example of the architecture common at the time. This could be classified as a modified version of soviet architecture. The elevation doesn’t have much design aside from teal-colored edges and center.
The occupation aims to cripple Gaza after the war ends by targeting buildings with civic and economic importance. Targeting al-Galaa Tower with all its media offices is a clear threat to the free press. The targeting of civil and press offices violates international law and is classified as a war crime requiring international investigation from the International Criminal Court.
The tower stood on Ahmed Abdel Aziz Street between the Al -Jala and Al -Yarmouk streets.
Hopefully, we will see the tower erected again without fearing the brutal missiles of the occupation.
